SA passport holders

SA passport holders can either apply for and obtain a visa before departure online via the official website, or they can travel and obtain a visa on arrival at Addis Ababa airport against a fee of US$82 payable in US$ cash or with a credit/cheque card.

Tourist visa

It is an electronic single-entry visa issued by the Ethiopian Government for visitors who wish to travel to the country for tourism or other non-business-related purposes only.

Citizens of all countries in the globe are eligible for tourist visa provided that the requirements are fulfilled.

Requirements: recent passport-size photo of the applicant; passport valid for at least 6 months from the intended date of entry to Ethiopia.

Processing time: under normal circumstances, 3 days. Travelers should submit their application at least 3 days before their estimated date of arrival.

Visa fees: US$82 for single entry – 30 days; US$202 for single entry – 90 days.

Investment visa

This is a visa issued to foreign nationals who are engaged in investment activities. It can also be issued to potential investors who wish to come and invest in Ethiopia.

Requirements include recent passport-size photo and passport copy valid for 6 months from date of entry; support letter from the nearest Embassy of Ethiopia; official application letter from the inviting organization; business license of the inviting company; and support letter from the Investment Commission of Ethiopia.

Processing time: under normal circumstances, 3 days.

Visa fees: US$62 for single entry – 30 days; US$152 for multiple entry – 90 days; US$252 for multiple entry – 6 months; US$502 for multiple entry – 12 months.
